The seven layers of the OSI model are organized into three levels:
• Upper Layers ()
• Middle Layers ()
• Lower Layers ()

The six points to remember about the OSI Model are:
1. The OSI Model provides a blueprint vendors can
use to develop systems that may differ internally,
but that can connect to each other and will work
in predictable ways.
2. The OSI model is modular in that it breaks up the
different aspects of moving data through a network
into discrete layers.
3. Each layer has a structured task or set
of tasks to perform.

The six points to remember about the OSI Model are:
(Continued)
4. Each layer understands the interface with the
layer above it and the layer below it.
5. The middle and lower layers do NOT require
specific knowledge of the message content.
6. Substitutions can be made within individual
layers without causing disruption or change
in the other layers.
